Why see a therapist when you can just talk to your friends?
Why See a Psychotherapist
People often seek therapy to solve problems with work and family relationships, to help alleviate feelings of anxiety, depression and confusion, and to remove blocks that prevent them from moving forwards with their lives.
How do you choose the right therapist?
The first time you meet with a therapist you should ask any and all questions you have about the therapist’s qualifications and practice, as well as discussing your reasons for seeking treatment. Pay attention to how the therapist talks to you. Are you helped to feel more relaxed? Does the therapist have experience working with people like you? Talk together about your expectations about treatment.
Finally, trust your gut feelings. Do you feel comfortable with this therapist?
How we’ll work together
My goal is to individualize treatment while helping you feel safe, so we will both need feedback to know how and how fast to proceed. We’ll talk. We’ll find old patterns that don’t work as well as they used to, and discover new ones that do, affirming the positive. For some people meditation and relaxation techniques offer healing, and can help you awaken and manifest healthy life choices. Becoming aware of simple breathing patterns and perhaps learning other ways to breathe can help you relax and stay centered when you’re in a tough spot, like a secret weapon. If you are interested, you might also enjoy keeping a diary, a dream journal, or using art techniques such as drawing, photography, music, etc.
REMEMBER: YOU CAN ALWAYS USE THE SEARCH FEATURE IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION. FOR EXAMPLE, ENTER “BABY,” OR “DREAM” AND ENTRIES WITH THOSE WORDS WILL AUTOMATICALLY COME UP.
